Project title: Comprehensive diagnostic algorithm for HPV-dependent tumors. Design and implementation of schedule for prophylaxis and personal targeted therapy.

Project description: HPV HR (High Risk - infection with oncogenic types of HPV) has been known to be associated with uro-genithal cancers. Recent studies have shown, that HPV plays an analogous role in the head and neck cancer development, which dynamic growth ratio is recorded worldwide.
The aim of the project is to develop and implement a comprehensive diagnostic algorithm indispensible for the Head and Neck Cancer (HNSCC) prevention, diagnosis and progression predictive models, based on next-generation sequencing (NGS) with special regard to tumors etiologically associated with the high risk uro-genital type Human Papilloma Viruses (HPVHR).
Anticipated results of the project:
• a screening test for detection of HPV infection in the oral cavity pharynx (RT-PCR),
• a diagnostic and therapeutically-prognostic test in relation to HNSCC heterogeneity, based on the NGS technologies,
• a diagnostic and therapeutically-prognostic test in relation to pathogens increasing the risk of HNSCC progression (co-drivers), based on the NGS technologies.
The principle objective will be preceded by the detailed evaluation of the tumor progression risk factors, i.g. assessment of: HPV genome diversity and impact of HPV genome types for cancerogenesis, binding the uro-genital HPV with oro-pharyngeal cancer, HNSCC heterogeneity. The investigation aimed to cover the wide sexually active population between III and V decade of life.
