The test consists detecting human antibodies IgM and/ or IgG class specific for Mycoplasma pneumoniae in plasma with the use of indirect immunofluorescence method. Mycoplasma pneumoniae is a bacteria responsible in particular for respiratory tracts infections (trachea, bronchi, lungs), but if not treated properly it may also lead to multiform complications in the nervous system, heart, joints and pancreas.
A positive test result indicates the presence of antibodies directed against Mycoplasma pneumoniae in a relevant class of antibodies.
