106 Streptococcus pneumoniae – quality PCR
The test consists of detecting the presence of DNA of bacteria Streptococcus pneumoniaein the materials coming from upper respiratory tracts. Pneumococcus is a frequent reason for human infections. Such infection is frequently preceded with previous colonization, in particular in nasopharyngeal vicinity. Most frequent infections caused by this type of bacteria include: otitis media, pneumonia and cerebrospinal meningitis. The highest risk group includes children under age of two with immunity disorders, recently cured from other diseases. Infections are more frequent among those with weakened immunology system, neoplasm, immunity disorders, post-surgery conditions, HIV infections, etc. Most cases of infections with S. pneumoniae is of non-hospital nature.
