Protein NOD2 takes part in immunology response and its direct connection with neoplasm development is not clear. It has been noticed, however, that the fact of carrying a mutation 3020insC in gene NOD2 increases ca. 5-fold the risk of developing breast cancer before the age of 50, and also ca. 2-fold colorectal cancer, 2-fold lung cancer and 1.5-fold ovary cancer. This mutation takes place with approximately 8% of patients with breast cancer, 15% with colorectal cancer, 12% with lung cancer and ca. 11% with ovary cancer.
