Industrial diagnostics

Meeting the expectations of our clients, we have introduced in our offering a service connected with universal identification of bacteria and fungi. This test consists is identifying gene 16S rDNA, which is common for all the bacteria as well as gene 18S rDNA common for all types of fungi. Genes 16S and 18S show high changeability between species which facilitates their identification.

The method that we use is based on sequencing the amplification product, acquired with a standard PCR (polymerase chain reaction) technique with the application of specific starter pairs. As the matrix in the PCR reaction, we have used DNA of a bacteria or fungi colony from the submitted testing material (agar plate or inoculum). The received results are compared against the data base and on that basis identification is made in respect of the type and even breed of a tested strain.

This service is addressed at laboratories specializing in food sector, industry, cosmetic sector, pharmaceutical business and also at scientific-research institutions.

Costs of analysis for one strain is PLN 250 net plus 23% VAT.
Delivery date is 10 business days.

Example of bacteria identification with the sequencing method:
The environment that surrounds us features a lot of pathogenic bacteria, which do not only cause certain diseases, but may also be a reason for contamination in the food industry. Examples of that may be well known bacteria E. coli, Staphylococcus aureus or Yersinia enterocolitica.

The above microorganisms may be present in food and get transferred to production plants, dealing with food processing. With insufficient food “cleanness” control in production halls, food products may get contaminated, which may lead, among others, to ingestion toxicity among consumers. In order to avoid such situations, one may expand the scope of internal quality audit by sampling raw materials for microbiological testing. Homogenous bacteria colonies acquired in cultures may easily be identified with a sensitive method based on sequencing gene 16S, which is universal to all bacteria.

Another important condition for ensuring cleanness of working environment is air-conditioning monitoring. Air-conditioning equipment filters are a location for many species of fungi, among which fungi of the Fusarium breed are of significant diagnostic importance, as well as Aspergillus. Spores of these fungi pose a serious threat to human health. That is why it is so important to check the cleanness of this equipment. For that purpose, it is enough to take samples of the filter surfaces and culture them on appropriate plates. With a view to identifying the type of fungi, a sequencing method is used based on the analysis of gene 18S, which is universal to all fungi.
